It was a great evening, at the Famous Barrel Beer Garden, 3 and a half hours seemed to fly by, and in all that time, not a stitch of music or anything else but the spoken word along with some Haitian field recordings entertained the crowd for all that time.
Jonny Fluffypunk was a great host, and there were 11 poets in all who took part.
Seth Hampshire from Truro won the Caravanserai Cup at this inagural Penryn Poetry Slam of 2013.
Here’s a list of the poets who performed and the prizes:
Abe Danger Cambridge
Daria
Will Rothwell
Helen Moore
Alex Small
We also had second and third prizes for the poets, and even a prize for the best(meaning Meanest!) judge, as well as one for the most supportive audience member. (see the List of Prizes below*)
We’re taking the Caravanserai Performance Poet’s Cup to the engravers tomorrow to get Seth’s name on it, so I suppose we are committed to doing it again next year to see whose name goes on in 2014!
Mustn’t forget the performance poetry workshops held at Penryn Town Hall, Charlotte Garratt de Corisepa says “The workshop was amazing, Johnny is brilliant, I really enjoyed it all so thanks for all of that. And please let me know that date for the next spoken word slam :)”
*List of prizes:
1st place: Seth Hampshire, winner of the Caravanserai Cup 2013 and £25
2nd Place: Casey Bottono, winner of a free night in the Project Van at Treloan Coastal Holidays
3rd Place: Daria, winner of a portrait of the Queen
Prize for the most controversial judge went to Dominic Power who selected the array of Caravanaserai Chutneys, plants and Guidebook
Leaving the prize for the “Best” Audience member – Half a bottle of Caravanserai Sloe Gin – being given to Nicholas the harmonica player.
